  • How do I properly store oriental wool carpets?

    Moths can lay eggs in the woolen carpet fibers when they are in use in the home. When someone brings these carpets into storage they bring the eggs with them. Later the eggs hatch and new moths are born which appear in the hallways of the storage building seeking locations to lay their eggs. Proper storage of these rugs is a 2 step process.

    • Have the carpet professionally cleaned.
    • Roll it up and wrap it completely in plastic (usually the cleaner will do this).

    Those steps remove any existing eggs and prevent moths from laying eggs while in storage.

  • When can I move in?

    If there is a space available that fits your needs, you can move in anytime during office hours.

  • What are the hours of operation?

    The hours are Monday - Friday 9am to 5pm and Saturday 9am to 1pm.

  • What type of documentation do I need to provide in order to rent a space?

    All you need is a government-issued form of ID (examples: driver's license, state ID, or passport), and another form of ID with your name (examples: Sam's Club, Grocery Store, Utility Bill, etc.)

  • Do I need to sign a long-term lease?

    No, we rent on a month-to-month basis.

  • What about insurance?

    Proof of insurance is required on goods stored. We offer low cost insurance options for your property. Ask an Albany-Menands Self Storage employee for more details.

  • How do I make a payment?

    You can pay in person, through the mail or on our website. You may also sign up to have the payment automatically deducted from your credit or debit card every month.

  • What forms of payments do you accept?

    Checks, cash, money orders, VISA or MasterCard.

  • Do you sell boxes and storage supplies?

    Yes, at discounted pricing. We have boxes and all the storage supplies you may need.

  • Do I need to bring my own lock?

    You can, but Albany-Menands Self Storage also offers customers the option to purchase locks.

  • How do I know how much storage space I will need?

    You can either use the Storage Calculator on our website, or call our facility so that one of our staff members can assist you.

  • Can I just stop by to view the facility and storage spaces? Or do I need an appointment?

    Come by during our regular business hours for a complimentary tour of our facility.

  • How much notice needs to be given when I move out?

    We require a 10-day written notice. Our staff will go over that process with you at the time of signing.

  • Are there any items that I am NOT able to store?

    Liquids, explosives, flammable liquids, toxic materials and perishable items. Please contact us if you have any questions about a specific item.

  • Do you have handcarts and dollies available at your facility?

    Yes we do! You are welcome to use the complimentary carts to move in.
